The Leader in Me Youtube

You have had the opportunity to hear a brief introduction to The Leader in Me. After watching this video and thinking about the introduction on April 10th, what are your thoughts about how this applies to David E. Smith Elementary?

I am pumped about this stuff! I went home revived and feeling ready to start the next year already! I think it is great that we already have so much of this going on at DES. I look forward to seeing thre next few years and where it takes us! My kids are already using the language and I haven't finished the book! I BELIEVE...This will work! ;)

I believe this can improve the overall atmosphere & learning at DES. I want my students to be responsible citizens & I realize that for many children this will mean "educating" them in these areas at school. I am excited about undertaking this project.

It seems to me that the nature of this initiative is universal and therefore applicable to children everywhere. The benefits of developing learners in a positive, proactive and safe learning environment will most benefit our demographics at David E. Smith who may not receive this type of support at home.

I am excited to read the book and begin using the tools. I believe we are going to see an increase in positive attitudes and parent/teacher/student communication.

I am excited to be part of The Leader in Me. I hope that I can help students by implementing ideas outside of the classroom setting. I hope to change my vision of our future....

My class gets so excited just to be the "leader of the day", so I can't wait to see how excited they become once all students discover their leadership roles.

I am so excited that everyone can see what this will do for the students at David E. Smith. I believe that we will prove Mr. Gregory right when he said that, "people are motivated by purposeful work and compelling vision." This is going to take time, but our destination will be well worth the journey.

I believe both faculty and students will benefit greatly as we begin this journey of challenge and growth. I look for many exciting testimonies as we impact our school, community and personal lives.

I'm on board! From the emotional reactions from members on the Leadership Team, I feel that this book must have some wonderful techniques dealing with Transistions aiming for a well balanced, sucessful school.

I think this is a great opportunity for all of us at D.E.Smith to all grow together. With the same goal, we can make an impact on our children and them on their families and community. What a great positive atmosphere we can all share.

I am excited about this too. I feel with the whole school working together wth the same vision this will make it easier for all the kids, staff and faculity to encourage each other and work together. I am looking forward to implementing this. I am ready to go!

It's motivating just to read the comments. I don't usually work on Fridays, but it looks like I missed out on an exciting day!+

This will be exciting to watch the change. The idea of each child taking responsibility for himself is wonderful. I also thought of another saying my Mom used on us. "You can do anything you set your mind to." I hated that saying when I was growing up, but I used it with my children all the time. I think this is what we will be teaching

First and foremost, this creates a unified vision for DES. That in itself is powerful. But the vision isn't myopic. The very first staff meeting I attended I realized that DES was about more than high stakes testing and the newest teaching models. Our country is reeling from the fallout of unethical business practice. We have the chance to team up with our students, parents, and fellow staff members in ways that are profound. I appreciate the honest expressions of hope and purpose from our team leaders. Thanks for agreeing to take this on and guide us through. This is incredibly exciting and was the main topic of a stimulating conversation with friends over Easter dinner!

I am very excited about doing this program at David E. Smith! I have been here for such a long time and have seen the changes in the kids throughout the years and many of those changes have not been positive. This will be such a great thing for our school!!

In Pre-K this year we have been saying a pledge of respect as we start our time together each day. It goes...I am a smart, special, valuable person. I respect myself and I respect others. My words and actions are kind and honest. I accept only my best in all I do. I am proud to be me!
The kids have enjoyed saying this daily and get really excited in the end when they raise their voice levels on the last line and point to themselves.
I am looking forward to seeing how this book can help me to make my students even better than they are at the present.

I believe next year will be a wonderful start to grooming our children, staff, and families into a “real-world “partnership. It is hard to believe that a nation as powerful as ours still looses 2/3 of the 9th graders before graduation. If the U.S. Chamber of Commerce feels it important to publish a state-by-state report card, Leaders and Laggards, we all need to get on the band wagon to improve the self esteem and leadership in our children. Losing just one of our children is a waste of a potential leader in our community, state, and or government.

I think we have a lot more traditions then we think we do. I hated to see Grandparents day discontinued this year. We have GP's that say they have a picture with their kids each year and it is so nice that we would give them the picture. Transportation parade is another one, the older kids talk about what they did and how they helped their
brother/sister. I think this builds strong bonds between parents and children. I'm ready for this to begin and will work hard to make sure it succeeds.
